Christian Martyr and American Hero
by Jim Pouillon
September 13, 2009

Jim Pouillon was shot and killed while testifying to the value of human life and the evil of abortion, outside Owosso High School in Michigan last Friday. He was holding a large picture sign of a live baby on one side and an aborted baby on the other. Jim would often put into practice his 1st Amendment right to free speech and the Biblical admonition to “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed, rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 82:3. It became clear yesterday that the accused shooter’s motive to murder Jim Pouillon was indeed for his pro-life views. The Detroit Free Press reported Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy Colbry said the killing of Mr. Puillon was related to the latter's anti-abortion protest. He said, "The defendant was offended by the manner of Mr. Puillon's message." The Detroit News reported, "We believe Mr. Drake was not happy with the way Mr. Pouillon was protesting," said Chief Shiawassee County Assistant Prosecutor Sara Edwards. "Mr. Drake did not believe children should view the graphic material on the signs Mr. Pouillon carried," said Police Chief Michael Compeau.

Mark Gabriel, a friend of Jim Pouillon, said of him, “Jim loved the Lord and had a big heart for children. He took care of his own grandchildren. He was grief stricken when he learned that one of his grandchildren was aborted. He had a passion to tell the truth about the evil of abortion and so, he showed inlarged photo signs of the violence done to these babies. Despite failing health (being hooked up to an oxygen tank), he was out often to speak up for the babies and pray for an end to abortion. Jim’s actions and witness over the years has no doubt saved many lives. Jim is a true American hero.”
